Top 8 Free Mobile games (2023)

Hey everyone! With the new year in full effect, I'm back to highlight the best free mobile games you need to be playing on Android and iOS this year. These are the absolute must-try titles of 2023!

As a hardcore mobile gamer since the days of chunky Nokias, trust me when I say these free apps deliver insane amounts of fun and value. Clear your schedule before downloading, because once you start playing these addictive hits, you'll be hooked for hours on end! Let's dive in.

1. Genshin Impact

Kicking off the list we have the undisputed king of free RPGs - Genshin Impact. This anime-inspired adventure title took the world by storm at launch, and for good reason.

With a massive open world, epic storylines, and refined gacha-style progression, Genshin sets the new gold standard for large-scale mobile fantasy. You can pour 50+ hours into exploring its vivid regions and still not see it all.

Having full cross-play and cross-progression with PC and console makes Genshin extremely flexible too. When I'm home, I play full experience on my gaming rig. But on the go, I seamlessly transition to mobile and keep leveling my characters.

While Genshin does offer microtransactions for new heroes, everything is fully accessible without paying a dime. You earn plenty of premium currency just by playing regularly. Top notch production values for zero dollars - yes please!

2. Call of Duty Mobile

For you FPS fanatics, Call of Duty Mobile brings that silky smooth AAA shooter action to your phone 100% free. Say goodbye to your productivity once you download this bad boy!

From legendary maps like Nuketown to mobile-only additions like Hijacked, there's a huge array of locales and competitive modes. You get your Team Deathmatch, Domination, Battle Royale - everything you'd expect, optimized flawlessly for touch.

The gunplay and progression sync seamlessly with Warzone and the latest entries. I can play on my console, then transfer all my unlocks and keep leveling on mobile. Wild right?

With regular events and new seasonal content drops, CODM stays engaging for veterans. By selling cosmetics rather than pay-to-win gear, they keep competition accessible for all. I drop in daily for Team DM thanks to CODM's stellar ongoing support.

3. Pokémon UNITE

Now for the aspiring PokéMasters - you absolutely need to try Pokémon UNITE. This wildly addictive 5v5 MOBA simplifies the genre into an accessible strategic brawlfest.

You assemble a squad of awesome Pokémon and battle it out on tropical islands. Gameplay is easy to pick up but with hidden depth via builds, roles and strategies.

Matches are snappy 10 minutes, but the action stays frenetic as you capture objectives and evolve your Pokémon into heavy-hitting powerhouses. Sinking that final dunk at the buzzer for the win as Buzzwole never gets old.

The graphics and monetization are also top-notch for a free download. UNITE is super generous with rewards just for consistent play. I've unlocked nearly the whole roster without spending a dime after many hours of matches!

4. Diablo Immortal

Recently released for mobile, Diablo Immortal brings Blizzard's gore-filled ARPG hack ‘n slash chaos to your phone. This is a full-fledged new entry in the iconic franchise 100% free.

As you battle through creepy caves and rain-drenched forests, the epic orchestral soundtrack and visceral combat make this feel like Diablo 3 in your pocket. Except now you can grind loot anywhere and join friends worldwide.

While Immortal does include some controversial microtransactions, I've had zero issues progressing completely free-to-play. Ignoring the optional purchases, this is a faithful rendition of Diablo 3 adapted flawlessly for touchscreens.

With 6 character classes, always online shared world, and endless late-game, I'll be joyfully slaying demons well into 2023. Blizzard launching a AAA mobile title is a landmark moment.

5. Apex Legends Mobile

Rounding off my top 5 is Apex Legends Mobile - the slickest battle royale shooter tailored for touch available today. Forget Fortnite, this is your go-to for mobile Victory Royales.

Apex perfectly captures the lethally-fast gameplay of the console and PC versions. The big map coupled with unique hero abilities creates dynamic firefights and watercooler moments.

Nailing headshots with the Kraber, clutch respawns from your squad, and tense heal-offs inside the ring never lose their magic. Each 10-minute match tells an engaging story that keeps me coming back.

Despite some aggressive monetization compared to the main game, Apex Mobile remains enjoyable for free. The lack of building compared to Fortnite is also a huge plus - pure strategy and gunplay wins here.

6. PUBG Mobile

For mobile battle royale fans, PUBG Mobile offers up intense 100-player PvP survival action on the go. Huge maps and quality gunplay made this the game that initially put the genre on the map for smartphones.

7. Free Fire

Another excellent mobile BR option, Free Fire provides quick 10-minute matches and extensive personalization options. Fun graphics and regular content updates make this one easy to keep playing daily.

8. Clash of Clans

No list of top mobile games is complete without the OG - Clash of Clans! Building up your base, forming clans, and waging epic PvP wars laid the groundwork for enduring mobile successes. Its winning formula keeps players coming back.
